Our Evaluation Philosophy
Evaluations are conducted for a variety of purposes and can be designed to meet different needs. Depending on the approach, evaluations can invoke fear and resentment, or provide an opportunity for greater engagement and new learning among program staff and stakeholders. CURE prefers the latter approach, and draws on empowerment and participatory approaches to guide evaluation projects.
We work closely with our client partners to determine the type of evaluation required. This approach ensures that the values of clients will frame the evaluation. At the core of this process is a focus on how best to uncover the information and data that can be used to improve outcomes, communicate success and inform future planning.
Programs do not operate in a vacuum. That’s why we’re committed to understanding the unique local and soci-political contexts in which a program operates. Expanding beyond the specifics of a program to the environment in which it operates daily helps to provide a comprehensive view of the factors that may limit or facilitate success and sustainability.
We subscribe to the American Evaluation Association’s five guiding principles for evaluations: systemic inquiry, competence, integrity/honesty, respect for people, and consideration of the perspectives of diverse stakeholders and public interests related to the evaluation.
